The Beloved Peacocks of Plas: More Than Just Feathers and Superstitions

Nestled in the heart of Plas, our charming peacocks have become an integral part of our family. These regal birds are not just pets; they are members of the household who add a touch of whimsy to our daily lives. In this blog post, we'll explore the unique personalities of our peacocks and address the superstitions that surround these captivating creatures.

The Peacocks of Plas

Our peacocks, beautifully resplendent with their iridescent plumage and striking tail feathers, have made Plas their home for many years. These birds are known for their inquisitiveness and love for exploring. One of their favorite pastimes is nosing through windows to see what's happening inside the house. We've even grown accustomed to their peculiar habit of plucking seedlings from our flower beds, making gardening an entertaining challenge.

The Great July Molt

One fascinating aspect of peacock biology is their annual molt, which typically occurs in July. During this time, the peacocks shed their feathers, sometimes leaving them looking a bit bedraggled. The molt is a natural process that allows the birds to shed their old, worn feathers and replace them with fresh, vibrant ones.

Some might consider this molt as a moment when these birds are at their least attractive, but we see it differently. To us, it's a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and a symbol of change and renewal. It's a time when we take extra care of our peacocks, ensuring they have the support they need during this transitional phase.

Superstitions Surrounding Peacocks

Peacocks have long been associated with a mix of superstitions and beliefs. Some people believe that having peacock feathers in the house can bring bad luck. These superstitions vary across cultures and regions, but they often revolve around the idea that peacocks are harbingers of negativity or evil omens. Here are a few reasons people cite for this belief:

1. The "Evil Eye": In some cultures, peacock feathers are thought to be associated with the "evil eye." It's believed that bringing peacock feathers into the house can attract negative energy and misfortune.

2. Superstitious Folklore: Various superstitions associate the loud, raucous calls of peacocks with bad luck or misfortune, creating a belief that these birds bring trouble with them.

3. Shedding Bad Luck: Some cultures believe that peacocks molt in July to shed the bad luck that accumulates over the year, further strengthening the notion that peacock feathers are bad omens.

Our Perspective

Despite these superstitions, we've chosen not to let them influence our affection for our peacocks. To us, these birds are not just feathers and superstitions. They are friends and cherished members of the family. They bring us joy, and their antics never fail to make us smile. We believe in the power of sentiment and connection over superstition.

The peacocks of Plas have found a special place in our hearts, and we treasure their unique personalities and the joy they bring into our lives. Regardless of any superstitions, we've chosen to embrace our peacocks for who they are—beloved pets and members of our family.
