Hawk & Buckle

Steeped in history, this old stone pub has all the character you’d hope for - wooden beams, a roaring fire on cooler days, and views that stretch all the way to the North Wales coast. It’s the kind of spot that seems unchanged by time, in the best way, the Hawk and Buckle is one of those special places that instantly feels like home.

Whether you’re stopping by for a proper meal or just popping in for a drink, the team are always friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. They go the extra mile to make sure everyone feels looked after, which gives the place a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

The food is consistently fantastic — hearty, thoughtful, and clearly made with passion. And if you’re lucky enough to sit in the back room or out in the beer garden, the views are something else. On a clear day, you can see the coastline stretch right out beyond the hills. It’s the perfect spot to take a break during an afternoon walk, soak up the peace and quiet, and enjoy a drink with a view.

Nantclwyd y Dre, Ruthin

On the edge of Ruthin town square, you’ll find Nantclwyd y Dre - Wales’ oldest dated timbered townhouse, and a real treat for anyone who loves stepping back in time.

From the moment you walk through the door, you can feel the centuries settle around you. Each room is dressed just as it might have been in days gone by. It’s not just a museum , it’s like wandering through a living, breathing time capsule, from medieval times right through to the 20th century.

There’s a special link for us here at Plas Uchaf too, the house was once connected to the Wynne family, who lived at Plas Uchaf for generations. It’s lovely to imagine the same footsteps echoing through both homes across the years.

As well as being steeped in history, Nantclwyd y Dre is full of fun touches that bring the past to life. There are dressing-up corners for little ones (and big kids alike!), a beautiful hidden garden out the back, and all sorts of curious details to discover along the way. Workshops and events are held throughout the year, please head to the museum's social media for up to date news.
