Hydref. Autumn.
Autumn brings a cozy charm to the shepherd’s hut. The Welsh hills burst into vibrant shades of amber and gold, set against crisp, refreshing air. On the farm, the peaceful autumn rhythm creates a relaxing backdrop as sheep graze across the golden-hued pastures.
Inside, the cabin becomes your own snug retreat, complete with underfloor heating ready at the touch of a button for cool evenings. Take a stroll through the walled garden, or if an autumn shower sets in, curl up with a book in the warmth of the greenhouse. Guests can also enjoy a game of table tennis in the tractor shed. Plus, with full access to our drying racks and tumble dryer in the tractor shed, warming up your gear after a crisp hike or wild swim is completely hassle-free.
Gaeaf. Winter.
Winter is a magical time to stay in the shepherd’s hut. The Welsh hills are often dusted with frost, the air is crisp and clear, and the waterfalls run full after winter rain.
The hut is wonderfully cosy, with underfloor heating and an electric log-burner-style heater creating a warm retreat from the cold. If the weather turns wintry but you still want to enjoy the outdoors, guests can relax in the greenhouse with a book and a hot drink. We also provide drying racks in the tractor shed for walking boots and have a tumble dryer available, so you can return to exploring the next day feeling warm, dry, and refreshed.
Gwanywyn. Spring.
Spring is a beautiful time to stay in the shepherd’s hut. The Welsh hills begin to wake after winter, with daffodils out in force and the days growing longer and lighter. From the beginning of April we start expecting lambs on the farm, which brings a wonderful sense of new life and activity to the fields.
The hut remains wonderfully cosy, with underfloor heating and an electric log-burner-style heater creating a warm and welcoming retreat after a day outdoors. If the weather turns changeable but you still want to enjoy the surroundings, guests can relax in the greenhouse with a book and a hot drink while taking in the views. We also provide drying racks in the tractor shed for walking boots, and a tumble dryer is available, so you can return to exploring the next day feeling warm, dry, and refreshed.
Haf. Summer.
Summer is a spectacular time to experience the shepherd’s hut. Long sun drenched days give way to warm, balmy evenings and the farm is alive with vibrant energy as young lambs explore the lush green pastures.
Step outside into the listed walled garden in full bloom, it's the perfect spot to wander among summer flowers, soak up the sun, or enjoy an evening drink. Escape the midday heat with a game of table tennis in the tractor shed, or retreat to the greenhouse with a book during a gentle summer shower.

Our Story
We're the 6th generation of sheep farmers at Plas Uchaf ("Upper Hall"), stewarding a Grade II* listed house and restoring a 'Parks and Gardens' listed walled garden in Llannefydd, Conwy.
Centuries of Heritage

1500s–1700s Plas Uchaf is the seat of the noble Wynne family, with links to Ruthin’s Nantclwyd y Dre and High Sheriff of Denbighshire Edward Wynne (1711).

1800s - 1900s Our family arrived as tenant farmers. During WWII, the attics housed POWs and evacuees while the garden was lost for the war effort.

2019–2023 Supported by Glastir Uwch, we began the restoration of the ancient woodlands, farm pond, ha-ha terrace and historic garden walls (overseen by CADW).

2025 We launched our Farmstay Shepherd's hut, with thanks to a generous grant from the Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm Fund

2026 Plas Uchaf Farm Shepherds Hut was awarded third place in the Glamping Collection category at the inaugural Travel Chapter Showcase Awards 2026.
